Bedford Youth & Family Services (BYFS) developed the following infographics on students breakfast habits with the 2014 Bedford Youth Risk Behavior data to better educate our community about the importance of students eating breakfast.

“Infographics” are information graphics that can be used to market messages and display data in ways that are both informational and motivational.  Used frequently in journalism and social media, infographics present data through a combination of words, numerals, and pictures and are generally used to target specific audiences.

Technology Education & 3D Printing

Our JGMS students are doing some truly amazing projects in Technology Education (Tech Ed) classes, such as using the 3D printer to design and build the objects such as this green chess piece.  For those that are not aware, 3D printing involves a computer assisted additive manufacturing process in which layers of material create three-dimensional objects.

Tech Ed students classes with Mr. Ruscito are studying Construction Technology.  During the final weeks of the school year, students design floor plans for a single family home using 3D Home Architect software.   While designing their homes, students are learning the academic language of home building.   Students are listening, speaking, reading, and writing in small groups and large groups in order to facilitate their understanding of home building. Students always enjoy this fun, and educational hands-on project!

While Tech Ed students with Mr. O’Connor are currently studying Manufacturing Technology and the Engineering Design Process.  During the final weeks of the school year, students design board games while working in groups.   In this hands-on unit of study, students are learning how the Engineering Design Process helps organize and improve the process of designing, building, and testing a product.  For example, students use CAD to design a part for a board game.  Additionally, a 3D printer will be used by a number of students.
