The Bedford Education Foundation generously funded a grant that enabled our science teachers to purchase a large composting container, which is now located in our middle school courtyard. Also funded in this same grant are raised gardening beds, which will be supplied with compost. Student members of the environmental club have been leading the way to make JGMS greener and more environmental sustainable. Nice job Ms. Ferri and Ms. Scaltredo for supporting our students!
I would like to highlight the ongoing efforts by our students as they raise awareness about the benefits of composting organic waste at John Glenn Middle School. A group of our students are currently collecting and composting biodegradable materials, mostly discarded plant matter, which is collected during advisory block. This composted material typically includes left over student snack items such as banana peals, apple cores and other non-protein based food waste. In addition, students have just expanded their composting efforts as they collect materials during eighth grade lunch as well. To raise awareness of the composting program, students created and displayed informational posters in the cafeteria and hallways at John Glenn Middle School.
