The challenge of the week focused on designing a working drawbridge. See the constraints of building a pencil drawbridge below. Students had lots of ideas, some of which worked and some had to be re-worked. The main purpose of the JGMS Design lab is for students to design, build, test, and then redesign through hands-on learning. Students were sharing ideas, listening to one another, and challenging each other to make their design even better. The excitement in the air was contagious!
We are so excited that our Design Lab opened to students last week. The Design Lab is a creative instructional space open to all middle school students. Students who are interested in participating request a pass and then have the opportunity to build, design and create. Each week in the design lab students have choices to participate in the 'challenge of the week' or other activities such as building robots using basic electronic circuitry.
