This fall two of our JGMS students had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a Lead Boston conference. Two 7th grade students, Christina and Germaine, attended the 8th annual 'Elevating Lives' conference hosted at Boston University along with with Ms. Daley and Ms. Anderson. Lead Boston is an organization dedicated to improving women's health, building community trust, increasing civic engagement and closing the achievement gap. Ms. Daley, our 7th grade guidance counselor described her experience, "it was a motivating and inspiring event for our students and it provided ways to discuss and build leadership in our community." During the conference, a variety of community and industry leaders representing a wide range of backgrounds from public, private and nonprofit sectors, presented to the audience. The speakers provided narrative about their life experiences, lessons learned and offered advice.
Germaine added, "We learned a lot about the ways that these successful people were able to get to where they are in life now." Germaine found these background stories to be inspiring. More information can be found online about the Lead Boston program and conference here. Lead Boston works in association with the YWCA Boston and is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Thank you to Ms. Daley and Ms. Anderson for organizing this powerful experience for our students.
