Our 8th grade art gallery opened today, which included a nice spread of cheese and crackers, jazz music playing in the background, and most importantly of all, proud middle school artists sharing their mural projects. Many students and teachers visited Ms. Banks' art room today to view the mural art projects. During the art gallery our middle school artists met with teachers and student visitors and they described their mural projects.
Over the past couple of weeks students in Ms. Banks' 8th grade Art classes have been very busy working on creating thematic murals to communicate an important social or environmental issue.
This art gallery opening marks the culmination for these visual artistic assignments. These informative public arts pieces center around communicating political messages to raise awareness of the topic and to promote positive choices for the viewers. In small groups, students researched specific social issues and then worked hard to gather facts, propose a range of potential solutions and communicated the message in the medium a visual mural format. Ms. Banks also allowed students to integrate 3-D aspects into student mural projects.
Great job to all the 8th grade artists and especially to Ms. Banks for making this art gallery come to life! The images below are just a small sample of some of the many outstanding student mural projects currently on display:
