With our principal decked out in 1970's era tight slacks, a gold vest and a truly eyesight offending patterned shirt, it is safe to say that our JGMS Spirit Week has been a blast for all! This entire week at John Glenn Middle School we had a daily theme for students and faculty members to dress up. Monday was pajama and hat day. Our halls were filled with students wearing cozy pajamas and extravagant hats that will surely be the envy of any Kentucky Derby patron. Tuesday was called 'Bedford Day' and students dressed up in Blue to show off our local buccaneer pride. The spirit week continued on Wednesday as 'JGMS Goes Pink'. The student council wanted to raise awareness for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk, as October is breast cancer awareness month. Student council created three grade level containers to collect student donations to be donated for the cause. Then in lunch this week, students have been competing by grade level to donate money to this important cause. Wednesday was special because student wore bright pink to school, was was much to the delight of my 6-year old daughter. Students in the 7th grade have donated over $100 this week alone.
Thursday was called 'Throw Back Day' and various historical era costumes were noticeable in JGMS which included hippies, 1980's Madonna style clothing, and the a fore mentioned disco strutting principal.
Lastly, today is Halloween and our teachers students are having a fun time wearing costumes. Other costume highlights include, "Flo" from the Progressive insurance commercials, a cookie monster in the computer lab, witches, doctors, clowns, a rather large banana and whoopee cushion, pirates, a cheetah, Darth Vader, and many more.
Happy Spirit week and great job to the JGMS student council and especially to Mr. Donaher, the JGMS faculty advisory, for organizing this fun filled week.
