In short, PARCC is a battery of common standardized assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Math. At the middle school level, the English PARCC assessment will focus specifically upon literary analysis, research simulation and narrative writing. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education created an overview of PARCC titled, "10 Things Parents Should Know About PARCC". Take a look as it may offer some additional background information.
At JGMS we will have two waves of PARCC testing, one occurring in March/April and then another battery of assessments in May. These testing windows are determined by the state with the Performance Based Assessment (PBA) during the first wave and the End of Year (EOY) Assessment last. Fortunately, PARCC has released a series of practice tests for student use and many of our middle school students are well prepared. Please note our middle school students will take the PARCC in an online environment using either a laptop, iPad or desktop computer.
Below are a series of practice tests for math and English Language Arts & Literacy for the performance based assessments, which our students are currently taking this month. More information, and other types of PARCC practice tests, can be found online here.
